Brick Repair and Installation in Halifax, NS
Are the bricks in your fireplace too old and falling apart? Maybe you are considering a new brick-made project at your house. Don’t go any further. I doubt that you know someone who is an expert at masonry with more than 20 years of experience and I highly doubt that you can do this one yourself. It takes the skills hands and eyes of a professional to be able to make a great and artistic work out of your fireplace or whatever it is that you want to be constructed in your house. That is why you should call our company because we specialize in brick masonry.
Stretcher Bond This is the most common way the bricks are installed. It is called a stretcher bond because only the stretcher of the bricks shows when you lay them one after the other and you just repeat the same pattern while adding other bricks on top. While it is also the easiest way of installing bricks, it is not the safest one. This type of brick installation is not used for main walls and such, but maybe it would be just fine for your garden. Header Bond A header bond shows only the head of the brick, or better yet, the shortest, square side of the brick on the surface, but on the other hand make the wall much more resistant since the thickness you are using is that of a full brick, instead of half of a brick-like in the case of stretcher bond. This type of bond is most commonly used in surrounding walls and other things and it is more preferred because of the safeness it provides, while it also looks great, because it forms a square matrix on the surface. Frost Attack If you live in a generally cold area where it is considerate moisture in the air then chances are that the buildings that are made out of old bricks, have some bricks missing or cracked and your own wall or garden wall, might be in this condition. The reason this happens is that if the wall is made out of old bricks, or better yet no-quality bricks, then the water entering these bricks is going to freeze and then crack them open. We can take care of your wall by replacing the old bricks with quality bricks or even cover the whole structure with agents protecting it from water, moisture and frost attack. Efflorescence Have you ever seen a brick wall and it had white like stains on its surface? Or maybe your own garden wall or even fireplace had the same white like stains. The reason this happens is that again, the water entering the bricks brings to the surface all the salts that the brick contains, therefore, you see that white stain. While it is not a harmful condition is not good for aesthetics and it shows a work poorly done. We can take care to get rid of efflorescence and even make sure it doesn’t happen again. |
