Parging is a decorative cover put on the visible side of the walls of your house in order to cover the imperfections. Only the hands of an expert can guarantee and smooth and great-looking wall after done with parging. While parging is not a must since its purpose is mainly decorative, for homeowners whose walls are exposed to the weather, it offers a protective service, especially for the insulated walls, since parging mixes best when applied on top of a wall insulator.

Cement Coating
This is the typical pre-mixed parging that is sold in bags from companies. Usually, the mixture consists of cement, sand, and lime and it is great for parging. The same mixture is used for bricks laying but on the other hand this type of mixture can make the wall look at its best. Whether is a bricks wall or not, this type of parging will give it a greyish smooth color and will be extra protective towards the wall keeping it from getting damaged or eroded from the weather conditions. Most experts use this type of parging.

Acrylic Parging
This type of parging has a way greater quality than the cement parging and it is logically more expensive. The original mixture consists of cement and liquid acrylic. But then a fiberglass armature is added to these and then, in the end, we apply the acrylic paste. This type of parging offers a lot more quality and protection towards the wall and it holds on much longer than the usual cement parging who comes off after approximately five to ten years. Another advantage of this type of parging is the mixture of colors and the options that it offers. However like I said this type of parging is more expensive.

Conditions
Before parging, there are a set of conditions that must be respected in order to make sure that the parging is going to be of quality. First of all the surface that is going to be parged must be cleaned and must not have any stains of grease or dirt or dust. Then the surface that is going to be parged must be moistened while the mix is being prepared according to the instructions that come in the bag. Once the mix is ready, you have to make sure the temperature is above 41 degrees Fahrenheit before applying. Once done the parged surface must be moistened in short intervals to make sure the curing is done right.

Repairing
It can happen over time that parging can start developing cracks and it can come off the walls. If you see any sign of cracks usually in the corners or at the door edges then you can call us right now and our professionals will be more than happy to fix the problem with parging to level it while making sure the problem doesn’t spread. If major cracks have shown up and the parging has come off in a lot of places then removing it completely to do a new parging is the best advice.
